Brakes, steering, tires, suspension, warning lights and oil pressure are safety systems: any problem with them needs a professional inspection by a certified (ASE) mechanic. - This site is general information, not a diagnosis. It does not provide do-it-yourself repair steps for safety systems. - For brake, steering, tire or warning-light symptoms (including a red oil pressure light): stop driving as soon as it is safe and have a certified (ASE) mechanic inspect the vehicle; tow it if unsure. ## Key facts - Emissions testing is required for registration only in Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber counties (Utah DMV). - 2026 schedule, Davis/Salt Lake/Utah/Weber: model years 2024, 2022 and 2020-1996 required; 2026, 2025, 2023, 2021 not required. Utah County also requires diesel 1998-2021 (Utah DMV). - 2026 schedule, Cache: 2021-2026 not required; 2020-1996 biennial (Utah DMV). - Salt Lake County and Davis County pages list 1968+ vehicles as subject to testing while the DMV table shows 1995 and older not required; owners of 1968-1995 vehicles should confirm with the county. - Emissions certificate valid two months; test no more than two months before renewal (Utah DMV, Tax Commission Pub 9). - Electric vehicles, motorcycles and new vehicles with an MSO are exempt in all five counties. - Emissions test price: Weber County maximum $35 (Weber-Morgan Health Dept 2026 fee schedule); Utah County set by station and posted, one price for all vehicles; Cache market price with one free retest within 15 days; Salt Lake County station-set, about $25 average reported by KSL in 2022. - In OBD tests, a check engine light commanded on is an automatic failure (Bear River Health Dept regulation). - Utah removed the safety inspection requirement for most passenger vehicles on January 1, 2018; still required for salvage-to-rebuilt titles, first-time street-legal ATVs, and annually for commercial/for-hire vehicles (Utah DMV, UHP, Utah Code 53-8-205). - Oil: most engines 5,000-7,500 miles; conventional ~5,000; synthetic 10,000-15,000; at least yearly (AAA). Prices: conventional $35-$75, synthetic $65-$125 (Kelley Blue Book). - Brakes: ~30,000 miles typical; pads and rotors $250-$500 per axle (AAA). Brake fluid every two years if manual is silent (AAA). ## Pages - [Utah Auto Help: Emissions, Oil Change and Brake Facts for Utah Drivers](https://utahautohelp.com/): Which Utah counties require emissions tests in 2026, which model years need one, safety inspection rules, and typical oil change and brake costs, with official sources. - [Utah Emissions Testing 2026: Counties, Model Years and Rules](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions-testing/): Which Utah counties require emissions tests, the 2026 model year schedule, how long a certificate lasts, and exemptions, from the Utah DMV and county health departments. - [Salt Lake County Emissions Test Requirements 2026 (Utah)](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions/salt-lake-county/): Salt Lake County, Utah emissions rules for 2026: required model years, exemptions, test cost rules and county contact, from official sources. - [Davis County Emissions Test Requirements 2026 (Utah)](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions/davis-county/): Davis County, Utah emissions rules for 2026: required model years, exemptions, test cost rules and county contact, from official sources. - [Utah County Emissions Test Requirements 2026 (Utah)](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions/utah-county/): Utah County, Utah emissions rules for 2026: required model years, exemptions, test cost rules and county contact, from official sources. - [Weber County Emissions Test Requirements 2026 (Utah)](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions/weber-county/): Weber County, Utah emissions rules for 2026: required model years, exemptions, test cost rules and county contact, from official sources. - [Cache County Emissions Test Requirements 2026 (Utah)](https://utahautohelp.com/emissions/cache-county/): Cache County, Utah emissions rules for 2026: required model years, exemptions, test cost rules and county contact, from official sources. - [Failed an Emissions Test in Utah?
